So much to my utter dismay, yesterday I found out that Telegraphs – one of my favourite bands – have split up.

Telegraphs were the newest, youngest band to join the list of bands with a place inside my heart.  They are also the first band to give me a little ‘claim to fame’, something I was pretty moved by.  Gutted does not even begin to describe it.

He’s Going The Distance

So I listened to Cake today for the first time in a long time.  Years, in fact.

For Your Ears

Having held back on massive musical splurges with the intention of starting a Music Blog, I recently realised I haven’t started one… so here’s a restrained burst of excitement about some music I think you should hear.

Everyone likes free stuff, isn’t it even better when that free stuff is great?!

The Age Of Rockets have made their second album, Hannah, available for free.

Get on it – or just click and listen to it here

Glastonbury 2010 – Part 4

Part 1. Part 2. Part 3.

So, Glastonbury was his much fun!

This is my main dude, Terry, looking all probably fashionable in a beanie (seriously? it’s like 300C out there?!)

Glastonbury 2010 – Part 3

Part One. Part Two.

To my favourite part(s) of the festival.  Shangri-la/Arcadia.
I include The Common/Block 9/The Unfair Ground in this, but I didn’t make enough time to explore these properly.

Glastonbury 2010 – Part 2

Part One

So there’s music at Glastonbury, right?

Indeed there is.  I thought – being largely obsessed with music – that it would be the main highlight of the weekend, but there were simply too many memorable things aside from the Music to be able to pin down a ‘favourite side’ to the festival.

Nevertheless, Frank Turner was there, so he had to be seen.

Glastonbury 2010

Okay then.

Despite being a little tired of the reverence and awe in which people hold Glastonbury Festival,
it turns out they’re absolutely right.
Some of the best days of my life to date.

Videogroan #2: Female Role Models And Fetish Porn

There, that headline should clock up the hit-count.

So in the first Videogroan I whined talked about Lady Gaga, but what made me want to write these turbomegablogs was seeing the Alejandro video and then seeing the latest videos from her competition;  Christina Aguilera’s ‘Not Myself Tonight’ (released in April through RCA) and Kylie Minogue’s ‘All The Lovers’ (released a few weeks back through Parlophone).  Both are long-established queens of pop.  Both are huge role models and idols.  Both have very dodgy new videos.  And I have a problem with that.

So it’s not going to plan IT’S NOT GOING ACCORDING TO PLAN!

Bah. I’ve never been one who could command himself to write, but I had hoped to be half way through the short story by now, even factoring in the rust!  Alas, I’m still not far from the start.

Distractions abound, that pesky internet being the main culprit.  But at least the one good thing to come from the conclusion of all good television ever that’s currently underway is that there’s no shows to distract me.  Seriously, it’s just Glee and the thoroughly awesome Battlestar Galactica 2 Stargate Universe. And they’ll be finished soon, too!  But this dilemma is for another blog, probably as tomorrow or Thursday’s distraction…

I think maybe the amount of rust is a problem.  What I have written so far manages to be ‘too much’ whilst simultaneously not being sufficiently descriptive.  Clearly being out of practice with fiction isn’t as easy to power through as I had assumed.  It’ll get there though, I’m fairly determined.  And I should stop getting annoyed that what I’m coming up with is shit, because a) I can go back to it and wield the editor’s scythe like the Grim Reaper on crack, and b) because it being amazing wasn’t the prime goal. the prime goal is finishing and submitting something.  It being awesome would be nice, but at this stage my desperation determination to do what I’ve always supposed to be doing has to accept that finishing a short and sending it is a big achievement in itself for me.

In my head, the Rocky four music is playing.

Earlier, my head and ears was full of this:

This video was made by (his name is)RobertPaulson7, click through to his page, he’s entering it in a competition. It’s not bad. If a bit unsettling.

I have a lot of love for Far. Despite not listening to them as much as I should, there’s a massive chunk of my music collection that just would not be there were it not for Jonah Matrangah and co. I got all excited about their new album, but didn’t get round to listening to it until today, and it’s as if they’d never been away. Not mind-blowing, but consistently impressive from start to finish.  This opening track being a particular corking number.  Deafening indeed. Lovely. Musicgush over.

Anyway. To bed!
I have to kick Word’s arse after I’ve recharged.
Lots to do tomorrow, in fact.
I’m coming over all Tracy Turnblad singing ‘Good Morning Baltimore
Only I’m not as shrill and annoying.
Well… not as shrill…

Reaper vs Rock

Just what the hell is going on?

Seriously now.

In the last few months, members of the rock and metal world have been dropping like flies.

Top left: Ronnie James Dio – died 16/05/10
Top Right: Paul Gray/#2 from Slipknot – died 24/05/10
Bottom Left: Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan from Avenged Sevenfold – died 28/12/09
Bottom Right: Pete Steele from Type O Negative – died 14/04/10

That’s a bit of a pummelling for the world of rock, with iconic figures as well as contemporary future legends.
The latest I just discovered was ex Stereophonics drummer, giant nose and daft hair owner, Stuart Cable.

I didn’t particularly like the guy, not that I knew him, but on the occasions I encountered him as well as various interviews and TV appearances, he didn’t seem particularly likeable.
But I can’t help but feel a little gutted because it’s another known name in the rock world to meet an end way before their time is really up (that goes for Dio too, as he was supposed to be immortal). And another member of a band that have had a considerable impact.  I’ll certainly notice this more here in Wales!

Really beginning to wonder if the Grim Reaper has it in for the rock world.

He’s probably really after Bret Michaels, but the dude just keeps soldiering on.
Perhaps he’s behind it all and it’s all going a bit Highlander.
He needs to keep taking the essence of rockstars to fight his own mortality.

Seriously though, Rest In Peace the lot of you, and Reaper – stop swinging that scythe in music’s direction, please.
